Antique Week has begun at Bistro 108

Antique Week has begun at Bistro 108.

The weather looks like it is going to be perfect -- warm days, cool nites. Our hours are:

Thurs - Saturday (September 25-27) Lunch 11-2 pm & Dinner 5-9 pm.

Sunday Brunch 10 am - 2pm (September 28)

Monday (September 29) Dinner 5-9 pm

Tuesday - Saturday (September 30 - October 4) Lunch 11 am - 2 pm & Dinner 5-9 pm.

Remember to come to lunch. The Antique folks are busy shopping and we do not see them until Dinner time.

If you call for dinner reservations during Antique Week, I do not guarantee you a table the moment you walk in the door. But the wait, even when we are the busiest, usually isn't more than 15 minutes for those who have called in. We will have the Patio open for dining during the whole week.

Hope to see you this week.

What do you think of a Tequila Tasting Dinner?

Michael and Miriam Farenthold are the owners of Central Texas Spirits, Inc. and have asked us to partner with them to present a Tequila Tasting Diner. I think it would be a lot of fun to learn how to use some of their quality Tequilas for drinking, cooking and baking. We have not finalized a date for the event. We would like you to send us an email (info@bistro108.com) if you are interested in attending. It will probably be sometime after the January 1, 2009.

Happenings at Bistro 108

We have a new sidewalk and ADA compliant ramp at our front entrance. Parking shouldn't be a problem either since they lowered the curb and created a small step at street level.

This weekend Bistro 108 will be serving Striped Marlin and Blue Runner fresh from Hawaii. The Marlin has been a big hit. Chef Susan prepares it by grilling the Marlin serving it on a bed of fresh baby greens, toasted pine nuts and parmesan cheese then topping everything with a citrus vinaigrette and a side of fresh vegetables. Healthy and delicious.

In the last few weeks locally grown vegggies have been available. We have been serving locally grown tomatoes, black eyed peas and okra. It is so-o-o delicious. This week end we will be making a salad caprese with local home grown tomatoes and fresh mozzarella cheese, basil from our garden and extra virgin olive oil. Yum-m-m! come and enjoy. Thank you, Elvas.

One of our favorite vineyards - Dog House - donates fifty cents from every bottle they sell to Guide Dogs for the Blind (up to $50,000 a year). January 2005 thru August 2007 they have donated $85,000 to Guide Dogs for the Blind. Thanks to all our patrons for making Bistro 108 a small part of this great cause.

Make a note on your calendar for Thursday, July 10. Bistro 108 will be Grillin & Chillin on the Starlite Lizard Lounge aka the patio. We will have live Blue Grass Music from about 7pm to 10pm. So put on your shorts, sandal and sunglasses and bring your appettite. This is a night that the whole family can enjoy. Special appetizers and entrees will be on the menu.

Make Plans to Visit La Grange Memorial Day Weekend

Brad Pitt and Sean Penn's Tree of Life movie will be filming in La Grange (on the Court House Square) on Saturday May 24. They will have the entire down town blocked off for filming but Bistro 108 will be OPEN. The film company will direct our cutomers to special parking areas, so plan to come and see the movie being made. You will be directed to come in the side door, since they do not want anyone on the streets in front of the Bistro just in case they are shooting in our direction. They plan to film between 1 pm and 8 pm. Who knows maybe you will get a glimps of the stars.

This week's Fresh Fish from Hawaii is Japanese Sea Bass and Mahi Mahi. The Sea Bass has become an absolute favorite of our customers who have tried it. It has a much richer flavor and a juicer texture than the Chilian Sea Bass.

Some of the happenings this weekend in Fayette County are:

5/23 The Bugle Boy - Dirk Hamilton

A poet and musician known for his uniquely intelligent lyrics and passionate performance style, Hamilton creates music that can't be pigeon-holed into one genre or another, so indie rock, alt-rock, roots music, americana and folk-rock are often used. For his lyrics and performance style he is most often compared to Dylan, Van Morrison, and John Hiatt.

"The original anti-folkie...always one of the few legitimate poets on the scene." - NEW YORK PRESSUntamed and thoroughly unpredictable energy that makes both his live shows and his records gleam with special light."---BAM MAGAZINE

"Brilliant songwriting and goosebump-inducing singing. Hamilton's writing can't really be compared to anyone else; maybe a shot of Hiatt, a double shot of Van Morrison, and a kiss from the angels will suffice as a description."---Jackson Griffith, TOWER PULSE

5/24 The Bugle Boy -- Vicki Emerson
“Sweet tunes like “Daisy” and “The Hey Hey Song” evoke early Lucinda Williams and Dixie Chicks…the disc is strong enough to have earned Emerson more local notoriety.” Chris Riemenschneider, Minneapolis Star Tribune

5/25 Freyburg Hall -- The Austin Lounge Lizards with the Ginn Sisters opening for the Lounge Lizards. Door and Bar open at 4 pm, Food at 5 pm and Show starts at 6 pm. This is a show not to be missed. Go to www.myspace.com/freyburghall or call Bill at 512-203-4619 for more information or advanced tickets.
